passe \u00e0 travers une colonne d&rsquo;eau. Les eaux claires ont une faible turbidit\u00e9 ; les eaux contenant beaucoup de mati\u00e8res en suspension ont une turbidit\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9e. <\/p>\n<p>La turbidit\u00e9 est mesur\u00e9e pour plusieurs raisons. Tout d&rsquo;abord, la turbidit\u00e9 est un indicateur brut de la valeur esth\u00e9tique d&rsquo;une masse d&rsquo;eau &#8211; une rivi\u00e8re avec une turbidit\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9e semble boueuse et d\u00e9color\u00e9e. Une turbidit\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9e est l&rsquo;une des principales raisons de l&rsquo;\u00e9tablissement d&rsquo;une liste TMDL.  <\/p>\n<p>Deuxi\u00e8mement, une faible turbidit\u00e9 maximise la transmission de la lumi\u00e8re solaire n\u00e9cessaire \u00e0 la productivit\u00e9 photosynth\u00e9tique &#8211; les lacs clairs auront une productivit\u00e9 biologique plus \u00e9lev\u00e9e parce qu&rsquo;un minimum de lumi\u00e8re solaire est bloqu\u00e9 par les particules en suspension.<\/p>\n<p>Troisi\u00e8mement, une turbidit\u00e9 \u00e9lev\u00e9e r\u00e9duit la capacit\u00e9 des formes de vie sup\u00e9rieures, telles que les poissons, \u00e0 se nourrir et \u00e0 se reproduire. D&rsquo;autre part, une faible turbidit\u00e9 rend les petits poissons plus vuln\u00e9rables \u00e0 la pr\u00e9dation. <\/p>\n<p>Les changements dans les tendances \u00e0 long terme de la turbidit\u00e9 peuvent indiquer la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d&rsquo;une \u00e9tude chimique plus d\u00e9taill\u00e9e de l&rsquo;eau et de ses sources de contamination.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Comment mesure-t-on la turbidit\u00e9 ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Dans les eaux naturelles, la turbidit\u00e9 est le plus souvent mesur\u00e9e par un capteur optique conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 la norme ISO 7027 &#8211; la quantit\u00e9 de lumi\u00e8re diffus\u00e9e par les particules en suspension \u00e0 90 degr\u00e9s par rapport \u00e0 un faisceau de lumi\u00e8re infrarouge. Dans les eaux tr\u00e8s propres, peu de lumi\u00e8re est diffus\u00e9e et la turbidit\u00e9 est faible. Dans les eaux turbides, une grande partie de la lumi\u00e8re est diffus\u00e9e par les particules en suspension et la turbidit\u00e9 est \u00e9lev\u00e9e.  <\/p>\n<p>La mesure de la turbidit\u00e9 pose au moins cinq probl\u00e8mes :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>La turbidit\u00e9 n&rsquo;a pas de d\u00e9finition analytique, il n&rsquo;y a donc aucun moyen d&rsquo;\u00e9tablir si une mesure de turbidit\u00e9 est \u00ab\u00a0correcte\u00a0\u00bb.<\/li>\n<li>La sp\u00e9cification de conception de la norme ISO 7027 offre une grande latitude, de sorte que m\u00eame les capteurs conformes \u00e0 la norme ISO 7027 peuvent donner des r\u00e9sultats diff\u00e9rents.<\/li>\n<li>Il existe plusieurs fa\u00e7ons de lin\u00e9ariser la sortie du capteur, notamment en faisant correspondre le turbidim\u00e8tre Hach 2100, les dilutions de formazine et les dilutions d&rsquo;\u00e9talons de billes de polym\u00e8re.<\/li>\n<li>Il existe plusieurs solutions d&rsquo;\u00e9talonnage, notamment la formazine, les billes de polym\u00e8re et quelques solutions personnalis\u00e9es formul\u00e9es par des fabricants individuels.<\/li>\n<li>Il existe une douzaine ou plus d&rsquo;unit\u00e9s de mesure de la turbidit\u00e9, y compris NTU (unit\u00e9 de turbidit\u00e9 n\u00e9ph\u00e9lom\u00e9trique), FTU (unit\u00e9 de turbidit\u00e9 formazine), NTMU (unit\u00e9 de turbidit\u00e9 n\u00e9ph\u00e9lom\u00e9trique multifaisceaux), FAU (unit\u00e9 d&rsquo;att\u00e9nuation formazine), et FNU (unit\u00e9s n\u00e9ph\u00e9lom\u00e9triques formazine) etc. qui compliquent les comparaisons des bases de donn\u00e9es sur la turbidit\u00e9.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>La plupart des instruments multiparam\u00e8tres utilisent la norme ISO 7027 et donnent des r\u00e9sultats en FNU ou en NTU. Une autre technique, appel\u00e9e r\u00e9trodiffusion optique, est parfois utilis\u00e9e \u00e0 la place de la norme ISO 7027, car elle permet de mesurer des turbidit\u00e9s correspondant \u00e0 7 000 NTU ou plus, alors que le capteur ISO 7027 est limit\u00e9 \u00e0 environ 3 000 NTU. <\/p>\n<p>La turbidit\u00e9 utilise un \u00e9talonnage en deux points ; un point est le z\u00e9ro (eau sans turbidit\u00e9), et l&rsquo;autre point doit \u00eatre un \u00e9talon correspondant approximativement \u00e0 la turbidit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;eau que vous avez l&rsquo;intention de surveiller. Pendant l&rsquo;\u00e9talonnage, il faut veiller \u00e0 ce que les effets externes soient r\u00e9duits au minimum et \u00e0 ce qu&rsquo;il y ait suffisamment d&rsquo;\u00e9talon d&rsquo;\u00e9talonnage pour couvrir le \u00ab\u00a0volume optique\u00a0\u00bb du capteur &#8211;
