?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>L&rsquo;eau liquide est une matrice l\u00e2che de mol\u00e9cules d&rsquo;eau. Si de l&rsquo;eau d\u00e9pourvue d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne entre en contact avec une source d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne, telle que l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re, l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne se d\u00e9place lentement dans les interstices de la matrice des mol\u00e9cules d&rsquo;eau. Cet oxyg\u00e8ne est appel\u00e9 oxyg\u00e8ne dissous (OD) ; c&rsquo;est la m\u00eame chose que la dissolution du sel de table dans l&rsquo;eau. L&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dissous dans l&rsquo;eau provient de l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re et\/ou des organismes photosynth\u00e9tiques (algues) pr\u00e9sents dans l&rsquo;eau.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Pourquoi voudrais-je mesurer l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dissous ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>Comme les humains, les poissons et autres animaux aquatiques doivent respirer de l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne pour vivre, et ils sont adapt\u00e9s pour respirer l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dissous dans l&rsquo;eau plut\u00f4t que l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne pr\u00e9sent dans l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re. Les poissons de chasse, comme la truite, ont besoin de niveaux \u00e9lev\u00e9s d&rsquo;OD ; les poissons grossiers, comme la carpe, peuvent vivre avec des niveaux d&rsquo;OD plus faibles. La mort des poissons est souvent caus\u00e9e par de faibles niveaux d&rsquo;OD, qui sont souvent d\u00e9clench\u00e9s, ironiquement, par la d\u00e9composition des algues qui ajoutaient de l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne \u00e0 l&rsquo;eau avant la mort.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>L&rsquo;OD influence \u00e9galement la chimie de base de l&rsquo;eau. Les eaux fortement oxyg\u00e9n\u00e9es favorisent la forme oxyd\u00e9e des produits chimiques ; les eaux faiblement oxyg\u00e9n\u00e9es favorisent la forme r\u00e9duite des produits chimiques. Par exemple, les eaux oxyg\u00e9n\u00e9es favorisent le soufre sous forme de sulfate, SO4, tandis que les eaux d\u00e9soxyg\u00e9n\u00e9es favorisent le soufre sous forme de sulfure d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne (H2S). Le sulfate est une substance b\u00e9nigne, mais le sulfure d&rsquo;hydrog\u00e8ne est un poison.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Les niveaux d&rsquo;OD proches de z\u00e9ro se trouvent souvent dans les s\u00e9diments accumul\u00e9s au fond d&rsquo;une masse d&rsquo;eau. Ce milieu chimiquement r\u00e9ducteur contribue \u00e0 fixer les nutriments et les m\u00e9taux dans les s\u00e9diments. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Les changements dans les tendances \u00e0 long terme de l&rsquo;OD peuvent signaler la n\u00e9cessit\u00e9 d&rsquo;une \u00e9tude chimique plus d\u00e9taill\u00e9e de l&rsquo;eau et de ses sources de contamination.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Comment mesure-t-on l&rsquo;OD (oxyg\u00e8ne dissous) ?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>Deux types de capteurs sont couramment utilis\u00e9s pour mesurer l&rsquo;OD. La cellule de Clark traditionnelle se compose de deux \u00e9lectrodes entour\u00e9es d&rsquo;une solution \u00e9lectrolytique \u00e0 base d&rsquo;eau et recouvertes d&rsquo;une membrane perm\u00e9able \u00e0 l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne. Lorsque l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne traverse la membrane pour se dissoudre dans l&rsquo;\u00e9lectrolyte, il est consomm\u00e9 dans une r\u00e9action chimique qui g\u00e9n\u00e8re un petit courant \u00e9lectrique entre les deux \u00e9lectrodes. Ce courant est directement proportionnel \u00e0 la quantit\u00e9 d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dans l&rsquo;\u00e9chantillon d&rsquo;eau. Cette m\u00e9thode est d\u00e9crite plus en d\u00e9tail dans les Standard Methods 4500-O G. Eureka ne propose plus ce type de capteur.    <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Le deuxi\u00e8me type de capteur d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne est le capteur d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne optique, comme le HDO d&rsquo;Eureka, dans lequel une lumi\u00e8re bleue est dirig\u00e9e vers un compos\u00e9 actif \u00e0 l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 stabilis\u00e9 dans un polym\u00e8re perm\u00e9able \u00e0 l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne. La lumi\u00e8re bleue provoque la fluorescence du compos\u00e9 actif \u00e0 l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne &#8211;   <\/span><span>c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire qu&rsquo;il absorbe de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie sous forme de lumi\u00e8re bleue et \u00e9met de l&rsquo;\u00e9nergie sous forme de lumi\u00e8re rouge. La fluorescence est att\u00e9nu\u00e9e par l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne, c&rsquo;est-\u00e0-dire que l&rsquo;\u00e9mission de lumi\u00e8re rouge est r\u00e9duite si des mol\u00e9cules d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne sont pr\u00e9sentes et interf\u00e8rent avec le compos\u00e9 actif de l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne. Plus il y a d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne, plus la quantit\u00e9 de lumi\u00e8re rouge produite est faible.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Lorsque la surface sensible en polym\u00e8re est expos\u00e9e \u00e0 l&rsquo;eau, l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne se diffuse dans la surface sensible en fonction de la quantit\u00e9 (\u00ab\u00a0pression partielle\u00a0\u00bb) d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dans l&rsquo;eau. Ainsi, la quantit\u00e9 de lumi\u00e8re rouge re\u00e7ue par le capteur est directement li\u00e9e \u00e0 la quantit\u00e9 d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dans l&rsquo;eau. Le signal de lumi\u00e8re rouge est calibr\u00e9 en fonction des unit\u00e9s d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne appropri\u00e9es.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Les capteurs optiques d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne sont devenus la norme et sont pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9s aux cellules de Clark, car ils pr\u00e9sentent une faible d\u00e9rive d&rsquo;\u00e9talonnage sur le terrain, ne sont pas sensibles au d\u00e9bit (aucun circulateur n&rsquo;est n\u00e9cessaire) et ne n\u00e9cessitent pas de changements difficiles de la membrane qui g\u00eanent les utilisateurs de capteurs de Clark. Le 1er juillet 2007, l&rsquo;EPA a approuv\u00e9 la m\u00e9thode internationale D888-05 de l&rsquo;ASTM, Standard Test Methods for Dissolved Oxygen in Water, pour mesurer l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dissous dans l&rsquo;eau conform\u00e9ment \u00e0 la norme 40 CFR 136, ce qui permet aux agences gouvernementales d&rsquo;utiliser des capteurs d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne optiques. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>La quantit\u00e9 d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dissous dans un lac ou une rivi\u00e8re, par exemple, d\u00e9pend de plusieurs variables. Plus la pression barom\u00e9trique est \u00e9lev\u00e9e, plus l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne peut se dissoudre dans l&rsquo;eau. Plus la temp\u00e9rature de l&rsquo;eau est \u00e9lev\u00e9e, moins l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne peut se dissoudre dans l&rsquo;eau.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Si l&rsquo;eau a absorb\u00e9 autant d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne que possible pour une combinaison particuli\u00e8re de temp\u00e9rature et de pression barom\u00e9trique, on dit que l&rsquo;eau est satur\u00e9e en oxyg\u00e8ne. Si, en moyenne, aucun oxyg\u00e8ne n&rsquo;entre dans l&rsquo;eau ou n&rsquo;en sort, on dit que l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne de l&rsquo;eau est en \u00e9quilibre avec l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne de l&rsquo;atmosph\u00e8re. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>L&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dissous (OD) est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement indiqu\u00e9 en deux unit\u00e9s. La concentration d&rsquo;OD est le poids de l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dissous dans l&rsquo;eau et est exprim\u00e9e en mg\/l ou ppm. Le pourcentage de saturation de l&rsquo;OD est le rapport entre l&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne pr\u00e9sent dans l&rsquo;eau et la quantit\u00e9 maximale d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne pouvant se dissoudre dans un \u00e9chantillon d&rsquo;eau dans les m\u00eames conditions ; il est exprim\u00e9 en % de saturation.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Les anciens capteurs Clark Cell \u00e9taient traditionnellement calibr\u00e9s dans de l&rsquo;air satur\u00e9 d&rsquo;eau, mais le calibrage dans de l&rsquo;eau satur\u00e9e d&rsquo;air est de plus en plus populaire. Pour ce faire, on agite un demi-litre d&rsquo;eau dans un r\u00e9cipient d&rsquo;un litre pendant une minute, puis on attend une minute pour que les bulles remontent \u00e0 la surface et disparaissent. Le capteur d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne est immerg\u00e9 dans cette eau et a le temps de se stabiliser. Connaissant la temp\u00e9rature de l&rsquo;eau et la pression barom\u00e9trique, l&rsquo;instrument peut d\u00e9terminer le niveau d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dans l&rsquo;eau, car il sait que l&rsquo;eau est satur\u00e9e en oxyg\u00e8ne.
