Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit en 1999, principalement pour des activit\u00e9s de loisirs telles que la p\u00eache et la navigation de plaisance. Ce lac est la deuxi\u00e8me attraction touristique la plus visit\u00e9e de l&rsquo;Arizona et a g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 un impact \u00e9conomique cumul\u00e9 de plus de 1,5 milliard de dollars depuis sa cr\u00e9ation ; il est donc essentiel de surveiller et de maintenir sa viabilit\u00e9. Depuis 2005, il fait l&rsquo;objet d&rsquo;une surveillance \u00e0 long terme de la qualit\u00e9 de l&rsquo;eau. Les niveaux d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne dissous sont g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement sup\u00e9rieurs \u00e0 5 mg\/L, ce qui sugg\u00e8re que le lac n&rsquo;est pas eutrophe. David James, docteur en sciences, et ses \u00e9tudiants ont effectu\u00e9 des recherches sur l&rsquo;\u00e9coulement de l&rsquo;eau au lac Arrowhead, en Californie. Ce lac s&rsquo;\u00e9tend sur 782 acres, a une profondeur de 185 pieds et une altitude de 5 174 pieds.
