Questi composti possono adsorbire su terreni o particelle, evaporare e\/o degradarsi biologicamente a un ritmo molto lento. La lentezza della degradazione consente un accumulo che provoca concentrazioni elevate che possono comportare un rischio per la salute delle comunit\u00e0, sia animali che umane. La quantificazione degli oli raffinati (carburanti) nell&#8217;acqua viene generalmente effettuata utilizzando la cromatografia gassosa o liquida e la strumentazione necessaria, i reagenti e i metodi possono essere costosi.
