In order to accurately determine the true changes in water level only, barometric pressure fluctuations must be taken into account.<\/p>\n<p>The simplest method to accomplish this is by the use of a Barologger suspended above high water level in one well on-site (approximate coverage is 20\u00a0miles (30\u00a0km) and within an elevation of 1000\u00a0ft (300\u00a0m)). This records ambient barometric fluctuations over time and allows quick and intuitive barometric compensation via the software wizard, using the data files from both the Barologger and any Leveloggers in the area.<\/p>\n<table style=\"vertical-align: top;\" border=\"0\" width=\"100%\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"vertical-align: top;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"52\" height=\"65\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/onthelevel\/spring2010\/images\/tip.gif\" alt=\"solinst leveloggers automatic barometric compensation manual barometric compensation compensating levelogger data barometrically compensating levelogger data image\" width=\"52\" height=\"62\" \/><\/td>\n<td style=\"vertical-align: top;\" valign=\"top\" width=\"384\" height=\"65\"><strong>Manual Barometric Compensation<\/strong><br \/>\nIf an on-site Barologger is not available, your data can be compensated using alternate barometric data (e.g. from a local weather station).<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>To accomplish an accurate manual barometric compensation, the atmospheric pressure station should not be greater than 20\u00a0miles (30\u00a0km) away and within an elevation change of 1000\u00a0ft (300\u00a0m). In addition, the date and time of the barometric data should cover the range of data collected by the Levelogger.<\/p>\n<p>Since most atmospheric pressure devices output barometric data in inches of Hg or kPa, the data must be converted to feet or meters of water. Then 31.17\u00a0ft or 9.50\u00a0m must be subtracted, since Levelogger Golds only record readings above that value.<\/p>\n<div class=\"soldivcenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"\/onthelevel\/spring2010\/images\/Barometric-Compensation.jpg\" alt=\"solinst leveloggers automatic barometric compensation manual barometric compensation compensating levelogger data barometrically compensating levelogger data image\" width=\"331\" height=\"75\" \/><\/div>\n<p>Conversion from Inches of Hg to Feet of water column equivalent: Example: 30 inches of Hg:<br \/>\n30 Inches of Hg x\u00a0<span class=\"redtxt\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\">1.1330<\/span>\u00a0= 33.99 &#8211; 31.17 = 2.82 feet H<sub>2<\/sub>O<\/p>\n<p>Conversion from kPa to meters of water column equivalent: Example: 101.40 kPa:<\/p>\n<p>101.40 kPa x\u00a0<span class=\"redtxt\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\">0.1022<\/span>\u00a0= 10.36 &#8211; 9.50 = 0.86 meters H<sub>2<\/sub>O<\/p>\n<p><em>* Values in\u00a0<span class=\"redtxt\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\">red<\/span>\u00a0denote pressure conversion factors; consult the Levelogger User Guide to obtain common pressure conversions<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Once the final calculated barometric pressure values are obtained, they are subtracted from the Levelogger data set.
