\u00e9 oxig\u00eanio dissolvido?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>A \u00e1gua l\u00edquida \u00e9 uma matriz solta de mol\u00e9culas de \u00e1gua. Se a \u00e1gua sem oxig\u00eanio entrar em contato com uma fonte de oxig\u00eanio, como a atmosfera, o oxig\u00eanio se mover\u00e1 lentamente para as lacunas da matriz de mol\u00e9culas de \u00e1gua. Esse oxig\u00eanio \u00e9 chamado de oxig\u00eanio dissolvido (OD); \u00e9 a mesma coisa que dissolver o sal de mesa na \u00e1gua. O oxig\u00eanio dissolvido na \u00e1gua vem da atmosfera e\/ou de organismos fotossint\u00e9ticos (algas) na \u00e1gua.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Por que eu gostaria de medir o oxig\u00eanio dissolvido?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>Assim como os seres humanos, os peixes e outros animais aqu\u00e1ticos precisam respirar oxig\u00eanio para viver e est\u00e3o adaptados para respirar o oxig\u00eanio dissolvido na \u00e1gua em vez do oxig\u00eanio da atmosfera. Os peixes de ca\u00e7a, como a truta, precisam de altos n\u00edveis de oxig\u00eanio dissolvido; os peixes rudes, como a carpa, podem viver em n\u00edveis mais baixos de oxig\u00eanio dissolvido. A mortandade de peixes geralmente \u00e9 causada por baixos n\u00edveis de oxig\u00eanio dissolvido, que, ironicamente, s\u00e3o desencadeados pela decomposi\u00e7\u00e3o das algas que adicionavam oxig\u00eanio \u00e0 \u00e1gua antes da morte.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O OD tamb\u00e9m influencia a qu\u00edmica b\u00e1sica da \u00e1gua. \u00c1guas altamente oxigenadas favorecem a forma oxidada de produtos qu\u00edmicos; \u00e1guas pouco oxigenadas favorecem a forma reduzida de produtos qu\u00edmicos. Por exemplo, as \u00e1guas oxigenadas favorecem o enxofre na forma de sulfato, SO4, enquanto as \u00e1guas desoxigenadas favorecem o enxofre na forma de sulfeto de hidrog\u00eanio (H2S). O sulfato \u00e9 uma subst\u00e2ncia benigna, mas o sulfeto de hidrog\u00eanio \u00e9 um veneno.   <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>N\u00edveis quase nulos de OD s\u00e3o frequentemente encontrados em sedimentos acumulados no fundo de um corpo d&#8217;\u00e1gua. Esse reino quimicamente redutor ajuda a fixar nutrientes e metais no sedimento. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Mudan\u00e7as nas tend\u00eancias de longo prazo do OD podem indicar a necessidade de um estudo qu\u00edmico mais detalhado da \u00e1gua e de suas fontes de contamina\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Como o OD (oxig\u00eanio dissolvido) \u00e9 medido?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span>H\u00e1 dois tipos de sensores comumente usados para medir o OD. A c\u00e9lula de Clark tradicional consiste em dois eletrodos cercados por uma solu\u00e7\u00e3o eletrol\u00edtica \u00e0 base de \u00e1gua e cobertos por uma membrana perme\u00e1vel ao oxig\u00eanio. \u00c0 medida que o oxig\u00eanio atravessa a membrana para se dissolver no eletr\u00f3lito, ele \u00e9 consumido em uma rea\u00e7\u00e3o qu\u00edmica que gera uma pequena corrente el\u00e9trica entre os dois eletrodos. Essa corrente \u00e9 diretamente proporcional \u00e0 quantidade de oxig\u00eanio na amostra de \u00e1gua. Esse m\u00e9todo \u00e9 descrito com mais detalhes no Standard Methods 4500-O G. A Eureka n\u00e3o oferece mais esse tipo de sensor.    <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O segundo tipo de sensor de OD \u00e9 o sensor \u00f3ptico de OD, como o HDO da Eureka, no qual uma luz azul \u00e9 direcionada a um composto ativo de oxig\u00eanio que foi estabilizado em um pol\u00edmero perme\u00e1vel ao oxig\u00eanio. A luz azul faz com que o composto ativo de oxig\u00eanio fique fluorescente &#8211;   <\/span><span>Ou seja, ele absorve energia na forma de luz azul e emite energia na forma de luz vermelha. A fluoresc\u00eancia \u00e9 atenuada pelo oxig\u00eanio, ou seja, a emiss\u00e3o de luz vermelha \u00e9 reduzida se houver mol\u00e9culas de oxig\u00eanio presentes para interferir no composto ativo de oxig\u00eanio. Quanto mais oxig\u00eanio estiver presente, menor ser\u00e1 a quantidade de luz vermelha produzida.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Quando a superf\u00edcie do sensor de pol\u00edmero \u00e9 exposta \u00e0 \u00e1gua, o oxig\u00eanio se difunde na superf\u00edcie do sensor de acordo com a quantidade (&#8220;press\u00e3o parcial&#8221;) de oxig\u00eanio na \u00e1gua. Assim, a quantidade de luz vermelha recebida pelo sensor est\u00e1 diretamente relacionada \u00e0 quantidade de oxig\u00eanio na \u00e1gua. O sinal de luz vermelha \u00e9 calibrado para as unidades de OD adequadas.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Os sensores \u00f3pticos de OD tornaram-se o padr\u00e3o e s\u00e3o preferidos em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0s c\u00e9lulas de Clark, pois apresentam pouco desvio de calibra\u00e7\u00e3o no campo, n\u00e3o s\u00e3o sens\u00edveis ao fluxo (n\u00e3o \u00e9 necess\u00e1rio circulador) e n\u00e3o exigem mudan\u00e7as dif\u00edceis de membrana que incomodam os usu\u00e1rios do sensor de Clark. Em 1\u00ba de julho de 2007, a EPA aprovou o ASTM International Method D888-05, Standard Test Methods for Dissolved Oxygen in Water (M\u00e9todos de teste padr\u00e3o para oxig\u00eanio dissolvido na \u00e1gua) para medir o OD de acordo com o 40 CFR 136, tornando os sensores \u00f3pticos de OD aceit\u00e1veis para uso por ag\u00eancias governamentais. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A quantidade de oxig\u00eanio dissolvido, por exemplo, em um lago ou rio, depende de diversas vari\u00e1veis. Quanto maior a press\u00e3o barom\u00e9trica, mais oxig\u00eanio pode se dissolver na \u00e1gua. E quanto mais alta a temperatura da \u00e1gua, menos oxig\u00eanio pode se dissolver na \u00e1gua.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Se a \u00e1gua tiver absorvido o m\u00e1ximo de oxig\u00eanio poss\u00edvel para uma combina\u00e7\u00e3o espec\u00edfica de temperatura e press\u00e3o barom\u00e9trica, diz-se que a \u00e1gua est\u00e1 saturada de oxig\u00eanio. Se, em m\u00e9dia, nenhum oxig\u00eanio estiver entrando ou saindo da \u00e1gua, diz-se que o oxig\u00eanio na \u00e1gua est\u00e1 em equil\u00edbrio com o oxig\u00eanio da atmosfera. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O oxig\u00eanio dissolvido (OD) \u00e9 comumente relatado em duas unidades. A concentra\u00e7\u00e3o de OD \u00e9 o peso do oxig\u00eanio dissolvido na \u00e1gua e \u00e9 relatada em mg\/l ou ppm. A porcentagem de satura\u00e7\u00e3o de OD \u00e9 a propor\u00e7\u00e3o de oxig\u00eanio na \u00e1gua em rela\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e0 quantidade m\u00e1xima de oxig\u00eanio que pode se dissolver em uma amostra de \u00e1gua sob as mesmas condi\u00e7\u00f5es e \u00e9 relatada em % de satura\u00e7\u00e3o.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>O sensor Clark Cell mais antigo era tradicionalmente calibrado em ar saturado de \u00e1gua, mas a calibra\u00e7\u00e3o em \u00e1gua saturada de ar est\u00e1 se tornando cada vez mais popular. A \u00faltima \u00e9 feita agitando-se meio litro de \u00e1gua em um recipiente de um litro por um minuto e, em seguida, aguardando um minuto para que as bolhas subam \u00e0 superf\u00edcie e desapare\u00e7am. O sensor de OD \u00e9 imerso nessa \u00e1gua e tem tempo para se estabilizar. Com o conhecimento da temperatura da \u00e1gua e da press\u00e3o barom\u00e9trica, o instrumento pode calcular o n\u00edvel de OD na \u00e1gua, pois sabe que a \u00e1gua est\u00e1 saturada de oxig\u00eanio.
