Solinst Shielded Piezometer

Model 615 Drive-Point Piezometers manufactured by Solinst offers the person out in the field an inexpensive method of sampling groundwater, including VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds), monitoring water levels, conducting contaminant plume delineations, and more. The 615's are unique as they allow the use of inexpensive standard 3/4" NPT steel drive pipe which can be obtained locally.
The 615's are available with or without a barb to connect tubing. The 615's with the barb allows the connection of polyethylene or Teflon® tubing, which produce the highest sample integrity. This way, the sample does not contact the steel extensions (drive pipe) on the way to the surface.
The latest development of the 615's is the newly available shielded version, the 615 S. The 615 S is best suited for sites with high silt and clay content as the shield around the piezometer ensures that the screen does not get clogged or smeared during driving procedure. Once the desired depth has been reached, the piezometer is retracted, leaving the shield below, thus exposing the screened inlet holes to the sampling zone.
In many situations, such as the investigation of a dry cleaning facility, plume delineations need to be assessed. Often, DNAPL's (Dense Non-Aqueous Phase Liquids) are leaking into the ground.
To assess the extent of the problem, it is often most economical to drive sampling points into the ground both inside and outside the building.
