Model 405 Transmissivity Profiling
Depth Discrete Groundwater Monitoring
Reduce Costs and Field Time
High-Resolution Borehole Flow Mapping with Transmissivity Profiling
Map every significant flow path with 6-inch resolution—while simultaneously sealing your borehole against cross-contamination.
In fractured bedrock characterization, “average” data leads to expensive mistakes. If you aren’t identifying the specific fractures carrying the bulk of your contaminant mass, your remediation strategy is based on guesswork. Solinst Flute Transmissivity Profiling (Model 405) offers a rapid, high-resolution solution to map the hydraulic “plumbing” of your borehole in a single day.
While geophysical logs suggest where flow might be, and packer tests provide coarse interval data, Transmissivity Profiling provides direct, continuous measurement of flow paths at a 6″ to 12″ scale. Best of all, the profiling happens during the installation of a Blank Liner, meaning your borehole is never left open to cross-flow while you collect data.
Strategic Benefits for Hydrogeologists
- Unmatched Vertical Resolution: Identify thin, high-flow fractures that traditional 5-foot packer intervals often miss or “average out.”
- Zero Cross-Contamination: The profiling process uses an everting liner that seals the hole from the top down, stopping vertical contaminant migration immediately.
- Reduce Geophysical Costs: Direct hydraulic measurements often eliminate the need for expensive, indirect geophysical suites used to infer flow.
- Data-Driven Multi-Level Design: Use your transmissivity map to perfectly locate sampling ports for a permanent Water Flute system or nested wells.
- Rapid Site Characterization: Complete a high-resolution profile for a 1000 ft (300 m) borehole typically in less than a standard work day.
Technicians Monitoring Transmissivity Profiling Data
Features of the Model 405 Profiling Service
-
Continuous Transmissivity Map: Generates a detailed log of transmissivity versus depth, identifying every significant water-producing feature.
-
Removable & Remediable: Profiling is performed using a removable Blank Liner, leaving the borehole pristine for future use or permanent installation.
-
Versatile Borehole Support: Successfully deployed in hundreds of boreholes ranging from 3″ to 12″ in diameter.
-
Integration with FACT: Combine profiling with the Flute Activated Carbon Technique (FACT) to map contaminant distribution alongside flow paths.
-
Real-Time Monitoring: Data is tracked in real-time by expert technicians to ensure equilibration and data integrity throughout the eversion process.
The “Trio” Advantage
Transmissivity Profiling is the first step in the Solinst Flute “Trio” method:
- Seal the hole with a Blank Liner.
- Map the flow paths during installation.
- Design a custom Multi-Level System based on the exact hydraulic signature of your site.
Then, get even more data! Given the continuous Transmissivity Profile, a Reverse Head Profile can be determined by removing the Blank Liner providing hydraulic head measurements at each defined flow zone.
